About
Code Shack Labs designs and builds dependable software for organizations that need a small, senior team rather than a big vendor. Every project gets the care we would put into our own house.
Who we are
Code Shack Labs is a software shop in North Carolina, run by David Beuttel. We build for organizations that have a real job to do and do not want to hire a department to do it: laboratories, local government, small and mid-sized companies, and teams inside larger ones who need something built properly and quickly.
We are deliberately small. Every project is handled by the person you brief, from the first conversation to the handover. When a job needs more hands, we bring in people we have worked with before, and you meet them.
The shop is a limited liability company registered in North Carolina. We carry the vendor paperwork most organizations need, including W-9 and confidentiality agreements, and we are used to procurement.

What we believe
Solid code. Small crew. Your roof. Those six words are the whole business plan. Here is what they mean in practice.
Plain beats clever
We choose technology the next person can read. A tool that a new hire can maintain in five years is worth more than one that impressed a conference this year.
Write it down
Scope, price, decisions, and reasons all go on paper before the work. A project that is written down can be argued about, corrected, and finished.
Your data is yours
Where the work allows, we build tools that keep data on your machines. Where it does not, it lives in accounts you own. We never hold anything hostage.
Ship the whole house
A tool without documentation, tests, and a handover is not done. We finish the job, including the parts nobody sees.
The name and the mark
A shack is a small building that does its job. A lab is where you try things carefully before you rely on them. Code Shack Labs is both: a small, well-built place where software is made with care and tested before it ships.
- The roof
- Everything we build for you sits under one roof, ours until handover and yours after. Design, build, deployment, and documentation, from one crew.
- The braces
- Software is made of code, and code is made of blocks. The braces hold the initials the way a frame holds a house.
- The cursor
- The pencil-yellow underscore is a cursor waiting for the next line. It blinks on screen and holds still in print, and it is drawn in pencil because plans are made to be revised.
Work with us
A first conversation costs nothing. Bring the spreadsheet, the form, or the vendor quote, and we will tell you what we see.
